Our Mission

Improving the care of cancer patients across Canada through collaboration, education, and research.

About Us

CanRIO is a network of Canadian rheumatologists and researchers focused on two key areas:

  • Managing new rheumatic conditions that develop during cancer immunotherapy (Rh-irAEs)
  • Caring for patients with pre-existing rheumatic disease who need immunotherapy

Main Objectives

1

Clinical Care

Leaders in optimizing clinical care for patients with rheumatic immune-related adverse events.

2

Collaborative Research

Prospective cohort, retrospective cohort, and nested clinical trials to advance understanding and treatment.

3

Knowledge Translation and Education

Reliable, evidence-based education for physicians, trainees, family members, and allied health professionals.

4

Advocacy

Ensuring timely access to optimal treatment for all patients.

5

Building Partnerships

Partnering nationally and internationally to advance the field of rheumatology in immuno-oncology.

Research

CanRIO's prospective cohort, established in 2019, tracks patients with Rh-irAEs and those with pre-existing autoimmune disease receiving immunotherapy across 10 Canadian sites. Our retrospective cohort includes cases since 2013 and is ongoing.
